Description This presentation closes the gap left by the author’s presentation at the preceding conference, which documented the trends in the Czech translations of Russian fiction between 2007 and 2016, with a particular focus on modern fiction. The data from the last four years show that the “tried and tested” authors – those that Czech readers are already familiar with – get priority. Besides the Russian-writing Nobel prize winner Svetlana Alexievich (whose complete works have been translated into Czech, with repeated publications), the list includes Dmitry Glukhovsky, Eugene Vodolazkin, Sergey Lebedev, Guzel Yakhina etc., while internationally acclaimed authors such as Vladimir Sorokin and Lyudmila Ulitskaya have been somewhat neglected. Notably, Lyudmila Petrushevskaya, whose work last appeared in Czech in the late 1980s and 1990s, recently had three of her translated books published.
