| Description | Gaius Vettius Aquilinus Juvencus is the author of the first biblical epic in the Christian literature. Trying to enhance the original biblical text to make it attractive also to the upper classes of the constantinian pagan aristocracy he was, however, forced to transform it in accordance with the then literary taste. What was the result of this epicizing transformation? Is it even possible to preserve the spiritual message of the Gospel despite the stylistic claims of the contemporary epic poetry? These are the questions which are going to be answered in the philological analysis of the Juvencus' versification of the Parable of the talents. |
