| Description | The paper deals with the vocalic opening of the central vowel within a Chinese syllable in Modern Chinese. It examines how the different Chinese tonemes affect the opening degree in basic monophthongs and diphthongs. The difference of the first formant is analyzed by acoustic experiment methods to investigate the different level of vowel opening under different tonemic categories. The study was based on audio recordings of several Chinese native male and female speakers. |
