Description The aim of the research was to use new waste and yet safe sources of collagens from the domestic market in combination with cellulose derivatives. It is believed that the combination of cellulose fibres with collagen will allow the preparation of materials with improved properties at favourable production costs. Antibacterial properties are also an advantage, which will allow the elimination of the use of silver in the products. Cellulose fibres can positively influence mechanical properties through physical interactions with collagen, maintaining optimal moisture and wound environment. In this work, foam hemostats of different types of collagen alone as well as celluloses including their combinations were tested. In addition to the determination of physical properties (sorption capacity according to ISO standard, hydrolytic degradation and morphology), in vivo hemostasis was tested in a traumatized kidney model of laboratory rats. The unequivocal conclusion is the excellent synergistic efficacy of the combined collagen and cellulose hemostatics not only in terms of accelerated hemostasis, but also in the minimal amount of material consumed, including an improvement in the overall mechanical properties of the final hemostatic in both dry and wet compared to single species materials.
