Description | The paraphrase in the title of the present paper refers to the title Adventures in Dark Alleys, a collected edition of three novels about the Fast Arrows by Jaroslav Foglar. These novels for adolescent boys shaped, among other things, the face of Czech comics in a very significant way - Martin Foret, for example, introduces the genre term "clubs of young gentlemen", short for club comics, which has no parallel in the world (at least as it seems from the available sources). The aim of this paper is to briefly introduce the origin, development and demise of the club comic, to describe its specific poetics and to try to answer the question of how the specificity of content, typical for the Central European space, influenced the aesthetic qualities of the domestic comics scene and, more broadly, a significant part of popular culture. |
