Description In this chapter, we examine how Czech consumer law has been transformed over the first two decades of the new millennium. Like other Central and Eastern European countries joining the European Union (EU) in 2004, Czechia (also known as the Czech Republic) underwent significant political and economic transformation after the fall of communism. Although the role of individuals as consumers was already recognised in Communist-era legislation, consumer law was transformed considerably first in the post-Communist era, and subsequently through the implementation of EU consumer legislation into Czech law. The objective of this chapter is to trace this transformation in a number of areas.
