Description Introduction and aim The aim of the work is to evaluate the effect of outpatient group physiotherapy in patients who have experienced the disease of COVID-19 with persistent symptoms - respiratory difficulties, fatigue, impaired adaptation to exercise, deconditioning. The specific rehabilitation program takes place at the rehabilitation clinic of the Clinic of Physical Education and Rehabilitation of the Faculty Hospital at St. Anna in Brno. Study group A total of 36 patients (19 women, 17 men, average age 57.3 (± 12.5)) with persistent symptoms of COVID-19 who completed the program in the period 4/2021 – 1/2022 were evaluated. Subsequently, the file was modified according to entry and exit criteria for individual evaluation parameters. It includes patients with symptomatic, asymptomatic, hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients. Methods The program is based on recommended procedures for pulmonary rehabilitation in the case of COVID-19 and on recent literature. It consists of 8 therapies taking place twice a week. Therapy is group and outpatient. It consists of 5 consecutive parts - education and warm-up, stretching, respiratory and postural exercises, conditioning "Nordic Walking", final relaxation. Patients undergo an entrance and exit medical examination indicating group therapy. To evaluate the effectiveness of physiotherapy, classic spirometry values, standardized questionnaires for fatigue MAFS (Multidimensional Assessment of Fatigue Scale) and for subjective perception of health status in lung diseases CAT (COPD Assessment Test) are analyzed. During the therapy, the values of finger pulse oximetry, heart rate, subjective Borg shortness scale and subjective perception of fatigue are monitored regularly. The results were processed as part of the diploma theses of the master's program of physiotherapy at the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation of the MUNI Faculty of Medicine. Results An effect on the reduction of subjectively perceived breathing difficulties according to the CAT questionnaire was demonstrated (p < 0.001). A more significant improvement was observed in the non-hospitalized group (p < 0.001) compared to the hospitalized patients during the COVID-19 disease. A reduction in fatigue was statistically proven in the "Global Fatigue Index" parameter and individual sub-parameters according to the MAFS questionnaire (p < 0.05). The results of spirometry indicated the necessity of using another objective tool for monitoring lung functions, as physiological values were already demonstrated in most patients during the initial examination. A statistically significant improvement (p < 0.05) after completing the program was demonstrated in the VC parameter. Evaluation of the FEV1 outcome parameters showed a significant improvement in values in patients with a more severe course - hospitalized during COVID-19. Conclusion Based on our data, group physiotherapy for a period of 60 minutes twice a week for one month seems to be a suitable and effective tool for the rehabilitation of patients after the illness of COVID-19, which has been statistically proven.
