| Description | "The silence surrounding the phenomenon of abuse, mistreatment and abuse of the elderly is also symbolic," says Masaryk University sociologist Lucie Vidovićová. For the second year running, she is leading an interdisciplinary project that aims to break this silence in Czech society. "The so-called EAN (elder abuse and neglect) syndrome, i.e. the syndrome of ill-treatment of elderly people, does not even have a properly established name in the Czech Republic. It has a whole spectrum of causes, occurs in many contexts and escapes simple solutions." With her team, Lucie Vidovićová is first trying to name and define this phenomenon. To find out what is its prevalence among people in the Czech Republic over 60 years old, and finally to invite the various actors who could contribute to its solution to a common negotiating table. |
