Description Surgical infections of the skin and soft tissues are bacterial infections primarily affecting the skin and soft tissues, which very often require surgical treatment. These infections cover a range of pathologies, from simple superficial infections, which are very common and have a favourable prognosis, to deep and very severe necrotizing infections, which are rarer but cause permanent functional impairment and are potentially life-threatening. This document summarizes the current knowledge regarding the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases, presenting the clinician with the current standards of care for these patients in accordance with international recommendations. At the same time, however, regional specificities are also taken into account, so that the presented diagnostic and therapeutic management for individual clinical forms of these infections always respects the actual clinical practice in the Czech Republic. The document is based on the consensus of the experts from university departments across the Czech Republic.
