• Description: In this study, mythology is used to complement archaeological data in order to elucidate particular linguistic processes in the genesis of the Japanese language. Phonosemantic matching, transitory borrowing, taboos, or political interventions in the language are identified in the etymology of some crucial Old Jpaanese terms.
