Description | This chapter deals with the role of Pan-Slavism and Slavophilia within the context of contemporary hybrid threats in the Czech Republic. The authors outline a basic conceptual framework of relations between hybrid threats, pan-nationalism and illiberal actors, with a focus on Pan-Slavism and Slavophilia. The development and legacies of these phenomena in the Czech environment are described in the next section, with an analysis of their misuse in the post-1989 era and the recent situation following. The authors conclude that Pan-Slavism and Slavophilia serve to political mobilise specific pro-Kremlin actors within Czech politics, who undermine the official, pro-Western orientation of the Czech Republic. |
