| Description | Demonstrative pronouns in Slavonic languages represent a very specific group of words for which translation can be complicated. According to the analysis results we can better understand difficulties that can be experienced while translating demonstrative pronouns from one Slavonic language to another. The main important difference among Czech, Russian and Ukrainian and the way we use demonstrative pronouns in those languages is a very high number of Czech demonstrative pronouns in comparison to Russian and Ukrainian. It is caused by creating lots of derivatives to refer to a mentioned object very specifically. Therefore, in a Czech sentence we can clearly express where the object is located. With a bit of exaggeration, we can say that two words are not enough in the Czech language since we tend to be very accurate in referring to objects during speaking. The group of demonstrative pronouns should be undoubtedly studied and used properly to avoid misunderstanding. Except for preserving the meaning of an utterance, we must use a proper grammatical form of the demonstrative pronoun. These expressions might seem like short little words; however, their role in a language is not negligible and they should not be underestimated in a process of translating. |
