Description | This paper intends to present the collection of string instruments from the Department of the History of Music of the Moravian Museum in Brno, which currently comprises 80 items that date variously from the second half of the seventeenth century to the mid-twentieth century. The text focuses on the extant instruments of luthiers based in Brno, namely, Jakob Kliment, Franz Anton Wild, Ignaz Andreas Wild, Sebastian Wutzelhofer I., Bernard Wutzelhofer, and Antonín Galla, who were all major instrument makers of the eighteenth to early twentieth century. A brief overview of the history of Brno violin making is also included, along with information regarding the new documentation of the collection of string instruments at the Department of the History of Music of the Moravian Museum in Brno.
