Description The article is devoted to one of the areas of satirical depiction of the fictitious fate of the scientific discovery of the "ray of life" in Mikhail Bulgakov's 1924 prose work "The Fatal Eggs" – the mass-media environment. First of all, the role of the editor's personality is analysed, which is firmly connected not so much with the desire to obtain information, but rather to transmit it in accordance with a predetermined ideological attitude and with the desire to shock with sensation, under which the essence of the information is stylised. The article points out the means of strengthening the influence of mass-media information on the public with the help of ideologically coloured cliché and the writer's intention to denounce those mass-media techniques with which he cannot agree.
