Description | The desire to expose lies has accompanied human society throughout its whole history. In the past, various, often unscientific, methods have been used for this purpose. It was not until the period of the two world wars that the discovery of a device that can detect the bodily manifestations associated with truth and falsehood. The name polygraph was adopted for this device. After its discovery, it was only a matter of time before the possibilities of using this device for the purposes of evidence in criminal proceedings began to be explored. However, the attitude towards the physiological examination is not uniform in the world, and in the Czech Republic the result of the physiological examination is not accepted as evidence by the courts, therefore it serves only as information of an operational nature. In my paper I deal with many provocative questions, reflecting on why this device is not used more in practice and what changes could achieve greater objectification of this method. The aim of my article is primarily to initiate a discussion of this issue, not to resolve all the problems associated with the physiological examination, as such a goal would be well beyond the capabilities of a single article in a scientific journal. |
