Description | The report is devoted to the topic of "language learning biographies" of students (hereinafter LLBs), future teachers of Russian as a second foreign language in secondary schools in the Czech Republic, and the peculiarities of using this method by teachers as a tool for shaping students' motivation and autonomy during the study of Russian as a foreign language. The main focus is on how students describe their history of learning Russian. The aim of the report is to present how students, who independently compiled biographical narratives about their history of language learning, see the process of learning Russian as a foreign language in retrospect. Based on the qualitative analysis of the "language biographies" of students of the Institute of Slavic Studies of Masaryk University, the most frequently occurring themes in their "language biographies" will be identified. Since the students' experiences were both positive and negative, it will be presented how this experience could have influenced their own approach to learning this language and the choice of language learning strategies. In addition, the most typical patterns in the transformational narratives of the students will be identified to show how they themselves described their changing attitudes towards language learning over the years. Finally, the report will demonstrate how LLBs can benefit not only Russian language teachers but also the students themselves. |
