| Description | Vocational education has long been an important part of the education system in the Czech Republic, where the highest proportion of secondary school pupils of the relevant population year are educated in all Member States of the European Union. At the same time, for many of these pupils, this is the last direct contact with the education system during their educational path. Therefore, it is necessary to systematically analyze vocational education in the Czech Republic and, based on these findings, formulate recommendations for its development. In this paper, we identify the development and current state of vocational education in the Czech Republic at two levels: (1) based on data from the Statistical Yearbook of Education, we focus on identifying trends in vocational education and in the field of vocational education teachers; (2) based on curricular documents, we identify approaches to the preparation of future vocational education teachers. In the first part of the paper, we analyze available statistical data with a view to identifying future trends, and in the subsequent part, through the analysis of curricular documents in the form of desk research, we critically evaluate the potential impacts on the preparation of future vocational education teachers. Statistical data point to the persistently significant representation of pupils in secondary vocational education in the Czech Republic and point to the issue of the gradual aging of teachers. Therefore, we emphasize a critical evaluation of curricular documents influencing the preparation of future vocational education teachers, both in connection with changes in the framework requirements for study programs and in the context of expected changes in the subject system and framework educational programs of secondary vocational education, as well as the competency-based approach to the preparation of future teachers. We connect the critical evaluation with findings from already implemented research in the field of preparation of future teachers, but also with an evaluation of the results of their preparation from the point of view of a more comprehensive development of professional competencies. We also proceed from the need to prepare future teachers in the field of currently emphasized competencies and their interconnection, which also influence the revision of the RVP. In connection with the implementation of the 2030+ Strategy, changes can be expected soon that will affect vocational education in the Czech Republic, both in the concept of vocational education itself (revision of the subject system and framework educational programs) and in training future teachers. |
