| Description | How should we interpret the erroneous classification of Ouředník's literary experiment – Europeana: A Brief History of the Twentieth Century – among the historiographical scripts in the Central Library of the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University? What does this mystification tell us about the state of our literary field? This reflection opens a contribution to the discussion of Patrik Ouředník's genre-hybrid writing, which oscillates between fiction and fact, fiction and sociological commentary, language play and discursive analysis. Ouředník's circling around these domains is perceived as a specific authorial strategy and polemic with the problem of the classification of literature itself, which often leads to controversy and paradoxes. Using the concept of genre creolization, this paper attempts to analyze Ouředník's Europeany (or Europeána) and shed light on their characteristic hybridity and difficult classification. Methodologically, it draws on literary, cultural, and sociological theoretical approaches (genology, poststructuralism, actor-network theory) and does not neglect the question of the author's dual homeland, which is reflected in his work through the influence of two different literary traditions. |
