Description This study analyzes microbial communities in residential building ventilation systems using DNA sequencing. A total of 46 samples were collected throughout the year from air ducts in eight panel buildings across the Czech Republic. DNA was extracted using the ZYMO Quick-DNA kit and sequenced on the Illumina platform, targeting 16S rRNA (Bacteria and Archaea) and ITS regions (Fungi). Bioinformatic analysis included quality filtering and taxonomic classification via SILVA and NCBI databases. The results revealed diverse microorganisms, including fungal class Dothideomycetes and bacterial phyla Pseudomonadota, Bacteroidota, Actinomycetota, and Bacillota. Poorly maintained systems showed higher diversity and more potential pathogens, some of which are known allergens or hazardous to immunocompromised individuals.
