Description The paper focuses on the transformation of the discourse on language education in the context of teaching Czech as a second language in selected educational fields. The increasing linguistic and cultural diversity of the school environment is reshaping the role of teachers – from mere transmitters of subject content to mediators of the language through which subject knowledge is constructed. This shift requires new didactic sensitivity, particularly in communication and in fostering comprehension of a language that is not native for all students.
