Citation
Description The comic Crna Željka by Marko Dješka introduces a heroine who stands out by not speaking at all. This strange girl deviates from a society that either does not understand her or chooses not to. Her “dark” nature evokes suspicion and fear of the unknown. Željka sees what others cannot even begin to sense—surreal visions of the real world hidden behind the veil of everyday life. This presentation will focus on the tension between Željka as a representation of suppressed social phenomena and social critique, and the ordinary society that hypocritically devotes itself solely to its own interests, ignoring the consequences of its irresponsibility. Special attention will be given to the role of secrecy and black humor as key traits of the fictional character, capable of stripping away false masks and revealing the true face of the contemporary “Western” individual.
