| Description | This article presents a comparative linguistic analysis of how an indefinite or unknown subject is expressed in Czech and Russian, with particular attention to the terminology used to describe such constructions. The study focuses on syntactic structures that mark agentive subjects whose identity is either unspecified or pragmatically irrelevant, including indefinite-personal, impersonal, and generalised-personal constructions. These forms play a crucial role in discourse when the speaker chooses to omit or obscure the agent, whether for stylistic, epistemic, or cultural reasons. The findings of this study are relevant to a wide range of specialists, including teachers of Slavic languages, translators, terminologists, and textbook authors. By clarifying the formal and semantic characteristics of constructions expressing indefinite or unknown subjects, the article contributes to a deeper understanding of systemic differences in subject representation across Slavic languages and offers practical insights for language instruction, grammatical description, and cross-linguistic analysis. |
