| Description | The Vach'utian family ruled the Aragatsotn region of Central Armenia from approximately the early 1200s to 1350. During this period, the family patronised numerous monuments and architectural complexes, primarily of a religious nature. These include the monastery of Tegher, whose principal church is distinguished by its architectural peculiarities. The monastery was constructed under the patronage of Mamakhat‘un, wife of Vach'e, Ishkhanats‘ Ishkhan and head of the family. However, other than Mamakhat‘un other women in the family patronised buildings in later generations. This discourse aims to recognise the significance of these women as patrons of the arts, to comprehend the nature of their commissions, and to ascertain the extent of patronage in the historical, political and cultural context of the era. |
