Description Criminal law is a means of ultima ratio. In certain situations, the absence of unlawfulness of a crime is reflected directly in special provisions in the criminal code. This is the case, for example, with assisting suicide. However, some foreign regulations distinguish other forms of such conduct, particularly refusal of care as an expression of the autonomy of will and euthanasia on request. Each of these institutions, however, has different conditions for application and criminal liability.
