| Description | They spread across the whole of Europe — and even reached China and the Americas. In northern Brazil, Peru, or Mexico they are still sung today, for example at gas stations or in praise of drug lords. Although the Czech ones are two to four hundred years old, they tell us a great deal about how people in the past were informed, entertained, and how public opinion was manipulated. Do you know how a lost battle can be sold as a great victory? How to explain climate change, disasters, and epidemics? How to rein in potential rebels? And couldn’t there still be some profit to be made from it? |
