Description The original medieval settlement, later a small town, of Veselí nad Moravou represents a specific type of habitation situated on an island in the River Morava. In the later Middle Ages, the entire area of the small town was apparently fortified with stone defences. Only a few, heavily altered sections of the town walls have survived to the present day. In recent years, rescue archaeological excavations have expanded the previously modest information available on these fortifications. Drawing primarily on the results of new archaeological research, this article aims to describe the uncovered remains of the urban fortification system and, based on additional sources, to reconstruct its possible form and layout.
