Description Sigismund of Luxembourg (1368–1437) is today regarded as one of the most politically influential rulers of the late Middle Ages, as he succeeded in successfully dominating the linguistically and culturally complex, highly fragmented region of Central Europe. This took place against the backdrop of three courts – the Hungarian, the Roman-German and the Bohemian – with their highly differentiated court cultures. Despite numerous structural overlaps and the fluctuation of courtly actors, their structures were notable above all for their high degree of diversification. This work, in which researchers from eleven European countries participated, makes it possible to understand Sigismund and his courts with their political and cultural influence over a longer period of time and across national and language-related research barriers, and to compare them.
