| Description | This paper examines the Czech film Staříci (Old-Timers) as an adap- tation of historical material, specifically the life of the war hero Pravomil Raichl. The aim is to identify the central motifs highlighted in the film and relate them to contemporary cultural discourse. The analysis draws primarily on theoretical reflections concerning the artistic treatment of historical events as adaptation, the notion of adaptation as a creative process shaped by multiple factors, and the exploration of recurring themes and motifs in present-day Czech culture. The paper argues that the film’s focus on old age reframes its portrayal of the final stage of life, transforming it—under the influence of contemporary dis- course—into a subversive commentary that challenges conventional narratives of heroism. |
