| Description | This study addresses the question of the enduring value of The Tale of Genji (Genji monogatari), which has occupied the position of a major literary work for more than 1,000 years and has continually been renewed throughout history through various paraphrases. The aim of the study is to demonstrate, through several works (the gokan Nise Murasaki inaka Genji, the animated film Murasaki Shikibu: Genji monogatari, the live-action film Sennen no Koi: Hikaru Genji monogatari, and the digital game Genji koi emaki), the diversity of these paraphrases. This diversity attests to the richness of the fictional world of The Tale of Genji, as well as to the work’s high semiotic potential and cultural capital—key factors influencing its sustained relevance. |
