| Description | In a strategic area in the middle of Europe, over several hundred thousand years and against a backdrop of a changing climate, human populations migrated, the final stages of biological evolution took place, and technological innovations and artistic styles alternated. These events were no less dramatic than those we read about in later chronicles and documents. This book by leading experts combines the results of research in the natural sciences and Czech Paleolithic archaeology. Compared to the books by V. Ložek, Nature in the Quaternary (1973), and the collective work by J. Svoboda, The Paleolithic of Moravia and Silesia (1994; 2002; 2009), the data from the field and laboratories are more in-depth, expanded to include other types of organisms, and also progressive disciplines such as human paleogenetics. The book is being published not only to mark the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Věstonice Venus, but also in the year of the discovery of a new "mammoth" site in Ústí nad Labem. |
