| Description | This contribution aims to examine how self-images, perceptions from others, as well as identity and language are addressed in selected novels by Yugoslav authors. It focuses on the question of the construction of home and belonging. The analysis examines the protagonists of How the Soldier Repairs the Gramophone (2006) by Saša Stanišić and My Beautiful Life in Hell (2014) by Ivan Ivanji. Both authors reflect on their personal experiences and memories from former Yugoslavia. The comparison highlights themes such as loss of homeland, identity search in a new country, and the role of language in shaping identity. |
