| Description | The state-guaranteed pharmaceutical control system in Czechoslovakia began to develop with the establishment of the Institute for Drug Control in Prague in 1918. After the nationalization of pharmacies, pharmaceutical factories, and wholesalers, the national company Medika was founded in 1950. A technical control department (OTK) was established for the pharmaceutical industry. The control of pharmacies was carried out by the central technical control laboratories (ÚTKL) and regional control laboratories (KKL), which also trained pharmacists for the role of district quality inspectors. The regional department of SÚKL in Bratislava was established in 1952 (in 1964 it became independent as ŠÚKL) and completed the institutional development of control in Czechoslovakia. There was a division of work activities and powers, and the control system was streamlined between first-level institutions and the second-level control. The regional Medika companies were abolished in 1957. The KKLs were transferred to the regional pharmacy administrations, and in 1960, they were renamed as drug control laboratories and incorporated into the KÚNZ. |
