| Description | The paper examines the etymology of Ukrainian words denoting love, affection, friendship, and closely related concepts – within the framework of the concept of four basic types of love. Attention is paid to the primary motivation of the lexemes under study. The aim of the study is to establish the motivation of selected lexemes, considering their etymology, which can often be traced back to Proto-Slavic or Proto-Indo-European roots, as well as their semantic development, and to identify the relationship between the primary motivation and the modern meanings of these lexemes. The results of the study show that the Ukrainian lexemes under study are motivated by both specific material and abstract concepts, as well as concepts from the military or business spheres. |
