| Description | This study compares microclimate measurements from a section of the former Tišnovka railway line (currently inaccessible to the public) and the adjacent streets in the Husovice district of Brno. Thermal comfort was assessed with the help of the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI), using meteorological data derived from ECMWF reanalysis datasets. In areas characterized by spontaneous vegetation, summer UTCI values corresponded to the "no thermal stress" category and were approximately 5 °C lower than areas dominated by impervious built surfaces. Concentrations of suspended particulate matter were also lower in the greenway than in the surrounding areas, with the largest difference (5.7 µg/m3) observed during the winter. A supplementary network-based analysis of pedestrian routes between residential areas and schools indicated that schoolchildren would choose shorter routes through the greenway were it integrated into the existing network, offering increased pedestrian thermal comfort to a district affected by the urban heat island effect. |
