| Description | Not Just a Mammoth Hunter: In Honour of Eduard Štorch is a collective monograph presenting a wide range of research aspects, thematic areas, and creative phases in the work of the archaeologist and writer Eduard Štorch. Štorch began his engagement with archaeology in 1902 in Most and later continued his research in the northern suburbs of Prague. During his lifetime, however, Štorch did not gain broader understanding or significant institutional recognition. Although he temporarily withdrew from archaeology, his legacy in the fields of adventure literature, pedagogy, and archaeology remains alive and insufficiently explored. This legacy is continued in the present collective monograph, which offers a comprehensive overview of Štorch’s oeuvre through four scholarly studies. The aim of the book is to present to both specialists and the wider public not only various aspects and chapters of Štorch’s work, but also to revise, expand, and refine the existing perspectives of Czech archaeology, anthropology, and historiography on this nonconformist figure, his research scope, and his partly forgotten activities. |
