Description The article deals with the convergence and divergence of family law in Czechia and Slovakia. First, it discusses demographic developments considering selected statistical data and family forms in the countries under review. This is followed by a section focusing on historical contexts, in particular common statehood and unification, the division of Czechoslovakia, and the gradual divergence of family rights as a result of amendments and the adoption of new codes. Attention is then focused on specific issues, primarily the concept of marriage, parenthood, parental responsibility and its Slovak equivalent, and other related issues. The final lines deal with European values and standards, as defined in particular by international human rights treaties, case law, and, finally, academic projects.
