Description A functional prototype of an easily removable microfluidic channel on a piezoelectric substrate has been developed. This channel was designed to improve and simplify the use of devices intended for the separation of biological samples. The process of directly bonding the microfluidic channel to piezoelectric lithium niobate is technically challenging. Furthermore, after each use of the particle separation device, the channel must be detached and replaced with a new one. The presented functional prototype solves this problem by utilizing a thin layer of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), which mediates the bonding between the microfluidic channel and the piezoelectric substrate. The chips represent an important step in the development of a method for the direct detection of microorganisms in body fluids—they will help isolate microbes from the complex matrices that body fluids represent. In this way, it will be possible to analyze samples with a relatively high concentration of microbes and a small amount of unwanted elements. The result will be rapid detection and characterization of microbes without the need for prior cultivation, which will significantly speed up the process of clinical diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with infections.
