| Description | The paper reviews some recent analyses of Czech verbal morphology (Karlík 2022a; Starke, Cortiula &Taraldsen Medová 2023) which, in accordance with proposals of a universal functional hierarchy, argue for a hitherto undetected morpheme between the theme-vowel and the personal ending in the finite verbforms. The main purpose of the paper is to identify the costs of the new analyses for a grammatical description of Czech caused by discarding or reintegrating empirical counter evidence. |
