| Description | The chapter explores the liminal categories of life, death, and rebirth as reflected in visual culture across history and media. Its starting point is a fascination with ancient artefacts and their resonance in modern art — illustrated by Federico Fellini's dream diary, in which classical tradition, psychoanalytic thought, and the threshold between waking consciousness and dream intertwine. The central theme is the fluid boundary between the beginning and end of individual and collective time, along with the rituals of passage and their artistic treatment. The subsequent contributions are comparative and interdisciplinary in approach, bringing into dialogue not only the symbolic and spiritual dimensions of human existence, but also specific works from Czech modern and post-war art. |
