| Description | The adoption of Directive (EU) 2024/2831 of the European Parliament and of the Council of October 23, 2024, on improving working conditions for platform workers (hereinafter the “Directive”) was intended to mark a milestone in EU labor law and a significant step forward in the regulation of the so-called platform economy. Lawmakers adopted the Directive not only to benefit EU workers but also with the aim of increasing the collection of taxes, social security contributions, and contributions to state employment policy. The Czech Republic is also required to transpose the Directive by December 2, 2026, at the latest. In this context, the government has already submitted a draft law on platform work. This article has two objectives. The first is to define the goals of the EU directive in its final form and compare them with the significantly more ambitious original Commission proposal from December 2021. The second objective is to engage in expert discussion and take a position on how the Czech legislature has approached the implementation of the directive and whether the proposed legislation will pass the “Euro-conformity test” in relation to the directive’s intended objectives. |
