| Description | The aim of the lecture was to present three experimental studies in the field of sound-personality symbolism. These studies investigated whether native speakers of Czech (N = 65), German (N = 74), and Chinese (N = 74) would show a tendency to associate the sonorants /l/, /m/, and /n/ (voiceless stops /p/, /t/, and /k/) in first names with an agreeable and emotional (extroverted) personality. The research highlights the ability of first names (both fictitious and real) to contribute, through their phonetic structure, to evaluations of their bearers’ personalities. |
