| Description | Daniel Vojtek’s monograph focuses on French loanwords (Gallicisms) in Slovak and examines their inflectional and word-formation adaptation. Unlike earlier studies, it considers only direct borrowings from French into Slovak. From a previously identified set of about 4,200 Gallicisms, the author analyzes 748 basic loanwords and 2,262 derived or compound lexemes. The book provides a detailed account of their integration into the Slovak grammatical system, the multifunctionality of certain morphemes, and the mechanisms of word formation. Its main contribution is a systematic and innovative typology of the adaptation and derivational processes affecting French borrowings in Slovak. |
