| Description | This chapter explores how Latin is taught at universities in countries where it is not part of the regular secondary school curriculum. As a result, many students who enrol in Latin language and literature programs start with little or no background in the language. The same is true for students in other fields, who often have no previous exposure to Latin at all. The chapter looks at key challenges, such as setting realistic learning goals for different groups of students, choosing appropriate texts and grammar content, and finding effective teaching methods. It also considers the choice of textbooks and additional resources, including digital tools, and discusses ways to keep students motivated and involved. Finally, it addresses the need to narrow down the curriculum and reflects on the relevance of Latin today, especially in relation to the European cultural context. |
