| Description | The book makes accessible the memoirs of volunteer firefighter Josef Procházka covering the years 1937–1945. He was arrested by the Gestapo in December 1944 for his involvement in the resistance movement. Following his arrest, he endured a series of brutal interrogations at the notorious Gestapo headquarters known as the Petschek Palace ("Pečkárna"), after which he was imprisoned at Pankrác Prison and subsequently deported to the Small Fortress of Terezín. Written shortly after the end of the Second World War, his surviving memoirs bear witness not only to the horrors he endured but also to the involvement of volunteer firefighters in the Czech resistance during the Nazi occupation. |
