Description Acute poisonings, developing within hours after ingestion of poisonous plants, are common in indoor animals. Lilies and day-lilies belong among the plants that are extremely dangerous specifically for cats. Their ingestion is associated with the development of acute renal failure and very often ends in the death of the animal. The time window for administering adequate therapy is very narrow, and once the kidney tubules are damaged, the prognosis of poisoning is serious, even fatal. In this article, we describe a specific case where the owner allowed her cat repeatedly lick water from a vase with lilies. The poisoning then developed later, within about a week of the first ingestion, and unfortunately resulted in the death of the animal.
