Description Family environment determines the development of the gifted child. The closest social environment influences the personal characteristics with the conclusion of the self-concept. The investigation of the family environment and the self-concept is one part of the research of the gifted in the Czech Republic. 49 gifted children and 60 children from the control group were participated in this research. Children were divided into the groups due to their achievement in the Ravens Coloured Progressive Matrices. We used Harters Self-Perception Profile for Children to find out the level of the self-concept, we used also the Test of family relationships Antony-Bene, Family Drawing and the interview to find out the informations about family environmnent. The results of our research show the link between the level of the self-esteem and the quality of family relationships of the gifted and the non-gifted as well. The research confirms the importance of the positive emotional attachment with the parents and also the importance of the relation to a friend.
