Description The article illuminates the use of mathematical models in economics and the history of mathematization of economic science. First part defines a model and a model approach and specifies which models can be used in economics. It further presents various schools of economic thought and their attitude towards mathematization of economics and mathematical models. Second part devotes itself to microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic models. Last part deals with rational expectations.
