Description The report shortly shows the thesis which was solved during study of the Master's degree program Cartography and Geoinformatics at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University. The goal of this thesis was appreciation of the present state of automated generalization from highscale maps to medium-scale maps, especially generalization of buildings. In the first part, there is a review of existing algorithms and systems which combine them in order to produce a complex system for automated generalization. The second part contains a description of the complex generalization system chosen and its implementation into the ArcView 3.2 environment. Implemented algorithm was then evaluated by practical test. Data from the high-scale database (scale 1:500) were used for derivation of medium-scale maps 1:10000 and 1:50000. The last part of thesis describes this test and its results. Main problems which were found during the test are explained.
