Citation
Description The study deals with a subject of the early modern purgatory, in particular from the view of last wills written in the South Moravian royal town Brno during the 17th and 18th centuries. The first part of the text is addicted to the purgatory discours in the Czech Lands (literary tradition, sermons etc.). In the following paragraphs the author tries to outline basic trends in the attitudes of burghers to requiem mass, observing mass bequests in their last wills, in connection with a confessional background in the town. The paper points out a continual popularity of mass culture even in times of enlightenment proceedings, which should have aimed to the elimination of high priced mass donations.
