Description Aim: The aim of the study was to find out whether some of the commonly used adhesive materials had any impact on the growth of selected types of bacteria in vitro, in cultivation media. Material and method: With Disc diffusion method the impact of six orthodontic adhesives (Concise Orthodontic bonding system, Transbond Plus Light Cure Band Adhesive, Aqua Meron, Brackfix NT, Fuji ORTHO, Spofacryl) on the growth of the following nine bacterial cultures (Streptococcus pneumonie, Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus oralis, Streptococcus gordonii, Neisseria subflava, Neisseria lactamica, Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae)was observed. After 24 hours of cultivation, the inhibition zones around the materials tested were measured. Results: Transbond Plus Light Cure Band Adhesive and Aqua Meron proved as the best materials suppressing the growth of bacterial colonies. In GC Fuji ORTHO and Brackfix NT only little antibacterial impact was recorded. Concise Orthodontic bonding system and Spofacryl did not manifest any impact on the growth of the microorganisms tested. Conclusion: In some orthodontic adhesives, antibacterial impact in vitro may be observed.
